Project name: Palace of Life - City of Changes - Integrated program for the development of the visitor infrastructure of the Historical Complex of Split with the Palace of Diocletian
Lead partner: City of Split
Project partners: Split City Museum, Tourist Board of Split
Description of the project, objectives, and expected results:
The project ‘Palace of Life - City of Changes’ is based on the restoration, assessment, presentation, and improvement of the management of the UNESCO site of the Old Town (SGJ) with Diocletian's Palace. This project covers individually protected cultural real estate - through conservation-restoration and construction works, interpretation, presentation, improvement, education, sustainable management of visitors, marketing, as well as the introduction of appropriate tourist and catering facilities that will contribute to the development of a new, dispersed visitors’ infrastructure and will relieve the busiest localities of the Old Town. The project will also contribute to increasing the number of visitors to cultural heritage attractions and, consequently, to the development of Split as an all-year-round tourist destination.
The carrying out of the activities planned by the project will ensure a unique cultural and cultural-touristic offer, which will contain new cultural-touristic products based on authenticity, professional and creative interpretation of cultural heritage. These planned activities will attract visitors using modern ways of presentation and the provision of experiences through different senses. Most of the sites covered by the project have not previously been presented to the public (the Southeast Tower and access to the medieval wall on the east side of Diocletian's Palace), and the development and significance of the old town and the Palace have not been presented. The Museum of the City of Split is inaccessible to people with disabilities, as is the Old City Hall, which until now has not been assessed as a building and a place of significant events in the history of the city.
Locations included in the project: Old City Hall, the ground floor of the Split City Museum, Southeast tower of Diocletian's Palace with a building in Lukačićeva 5, and the southern part of the eastern wall of Diocletian's Palace.
Protection, renovation, furnishing, and presentation of the Old City Hall is one of the key activities of the project within which this website was created.
Total value of the project: HRK 25,421,397.75
